TallyPrime is widely used for accounting, invoicing, taxation, and business management. While most users know the basic accounting features, many useful shortcuts and settings remain overlooked.
These simple TallyPrime tricks can help beginners and regular users save time, navigate faster, and manage their daily accounting work more efficiently.
1. Use Go To for Quick Navigation
Instead of moving through multiple menus, use Alt + G (Go To) to directly search for and open the required report or screen.
This is especially useful when you frequently work with reports such as GST, Day Book, Balance Sheet, or other business reports.
2. Switch Between Different Screens
With Ctrl + G (Switch To), you can quickly move from your current screen to another report or menu.
For example, you can switch from Voucher Entry to Day Book or Profit & Loss without going back to the Gateway of Tally.
3. Alter a Ledger Directly from Voucher Entry
While entering a voucher, you may sometimes need to update ledger details such as bank information or other master details.
Select the ledger and press Ctrl + Enter to directly open the ledger alteration screen. This saves time and avoids unnecessary navigation.
4. Hide and Unhide Entries in Day Book
TallyPrime also provides an option to temporarily hide entries in Day Book.
Select the required entry and use Ctrl + R to hide it. To bring the hidden entry back, use Ctrl + U.
You can also select multiple entries using the Spacebar before applying the shortcut.
5. Select Multiple Entries Quickly
When working with a large number of transactions, selecting entries individually can take time.
Use Ctrl + Spacebar to select multiple entries together. The same shortcut can be used again to remove the selection.
6. Quickly Move to the First or Last Entry
If your Day Book contains hundreds of transactions, scrolling through them can be inconvenient.
Use the Home key to move to the first entry and the End key to quickly reach the last entry.
7. Check Detailed Voucher Information
When you need to understand exactly which ledger has been debited or credited in a transaction, open the voucher in detail.
This makes it easier to verify transaction amounts, ledger entries, and accounting details.
8. Add a New Voucher Directly
You don't always need to return to the Gateway of Tally to create a new voucher.
Using Alt + A, you can add a new voucher directly from the relevant report or screen, helping you continue your accounting workflow without unnecessary steps.
9. Enable the Final Accounts Menu
If the detailed Final Accounts menu is not visible on the Gateway of Tally, go to:
F1 → Settings → Display
Then enable Show Final Accounts Menu in Gateway of Tally.
Once enabled, additional financial reports can be accessed more conveniently.
10. Customize Colour, Brightness and Sound
TallyPrime allows users to customize their display and sound preferences.
Go to:
F1 → Settings → Display → Colour and Sound
From here, users can manage colour settings, adjust display brightness, and enable or disable sound according to their requirements.
